Making WiFiManager compatible with MySensors 2.3.2

Its not bug but a workaround just in case if any one is searching for solution. I was successfully using WiFiManager with MySensors 2.3.1 but after upgrading from MySensors 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 i was unable to compile ESP8266 gateway sketch and had error

To fix this iissue you need to comment out MySensors code in two location in core/MyGatewayTransportEthernet.cpp may be there is better way but this is quick fix.   Comment out line 49 to 55

Integrated Home Assistant with PiHome

I recently installed Home Assistant on a spare Raspberry Pi to play a bit with it and see what this system could offer. Once I got it running and configured it to control a couple of lights I started wondering if and how Home Assistant could be integrated with PiHome. After doing some researches I decided to give it a try, and by the end of the day everything was up and running! The idea of this implementation is to…

Boot Raspberry Pi from USB SSD

I was doing some read and write speed testing of PiHome SD card, it is doing good job so for me but i wanted to run raspberry pi from SSD drive connected via USB port and i wondered if it is possible or not so i across raspberry pi article  on how to do this. Check how to configure Raspberry pi 4 to boot from USB SSD Lets simplify this for the sake to engineering steps. Run following command to…

Resizing the USB SSD on Raspberry Pi

Default way to resizing SD card with raspi-config is not going to work on USB SSD disk so we have to do this old fashion i.e. command line fdisk. Let change partition table with fdisk. You need to remove exiting partition entries and then create a new partition that takes the all the free space on the disk we have. This will only change the disk partition table not the data on the disk. First Part of this post about:…

Serial Gateway on Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO

Serial Gateway on Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO

There are few ways to connect Serial Gateway to Raspberry pi. The easiest one is via USB port to raspberry pi. Due to the size of raspberry pi zero i prefer to have small PCB which will serve me purpose of gateway, zone and boiler controller. This can reduce the cost of having multi zone smart heating at the same time. Connecting Serial Gateway on Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO Raspberry pi GPIO are 3.3v tolerant but we have to use…

Link Google Assistant to PiHome

With a bit of spare time over the Christmas break, I have been working around with my google home and PiHome. I was ready to buy a boost console from PiHome but decided to try my own attempts first. Rather than using a physical button, I decided to try voice commands instead. Below is the description of how I got there – I’m sure you can think of a number of improvements/ a much simply way of coding this, but…

LoRa Sensors, Zone Controller and ESP8266 Gateway

LoRa Sensors, Zone Controller and ESP8266 Gateway

LoRa stand for Long Rang, in this post i will show you what i m up to with LoRa Sensors, Zone Controller and ESP8266 Gateway. PiHome infrastructure i.e. battery powered temperature sensors, zone controller, boiler controller and esp8266 smart home gateway is built with nRF24L01 wireless which operate at 2.4Gh. nRF24L01 is cheap solution but it has range limitation and unable to penetrate through the solid walls and you need repeaters installed around the place to get full coverage. Its…

i2C Interface

Low power relays boards are one of the most common interfaces between a Arduino/Raspberry Pi and the outside world. These relay boards provides electrical isolation between the low voltage circuits of the Arduino/Raspberry Pi and the high voltage loads. So why this I2C relay board? i2c relay boards only requires 4 pins from Arduino/Raspberry pi to control up to 128 relay. Raspberry Pi i2c Example of controlling i2c relay board from Raspberry Pi 1 – +5V 2 – GND (common…
